About Valley of Muhassir (Destruction of the Army of the Elephant)

Wadi Muhassir is the stretch of valley between Muzdalifah and Mina. According to many scholars it is where the army of Abraha, the ruler of Yemen who marched on Makkah with elephants to destroy the Ka'bah, was halted and destroyed, in the year Nabi Muhammad ﷺ was born, known as the Year of the Elephant. On the Farewell Hajj the Prophet ﷺ hurried his camel through this valley on the way from Muzdalifah to Mina, and pilgrims follow his example by passing through it quickly rather than stopping. Signs mark the boundaries of the valley along the pilgrims' route.
