About Masjid Namirah (Farewell Sermon)

On the Day of Arafah in the Farewell Hajj, Nabi Muhammad ﷺ camped at Namirah, at the western edge of Arafat. After midday he rode into the valley of Uranah, delivered the Farewell Sermon to the vast gathering of pilgrims, and then led Zuhr and Asr together before moving on to the place of standing. Masjid Namirah was first built in the Abbasid period on the site of the sermon and has been greatly enlarged, with six minarets and room for several hundred thousand worshippers. Part of the mosque lies outside the boundary of Arafat, marked by signs, so pilgrims take care to be within Arafat for the standing. The sermon of the Day of Arafah is given here each year.
