Al-Zawra' was a place at the edge of the market of Madinah, at the end of the paved way that led from Masjid al-Nabawi to the market. In the caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan, when the Muslims had grown in number, an additional call to the Friday prayer was given from al-Zawra', and al-Bukhari explains it as a place in the market of Madinah. Nearby was Ahjar al-Zayt, the oil stones, where a Companion saw the Prophet ﷺ praying for rain, and Dar al-Nakhlah, a plot beside the house of Sayyiduna al-Abbas that some reports also call the market of al-Zawra'. None of these places can be seen today. Their sites lie close together about 400 metres west of the Green Dome, in the area west of Masjid al-Nabawi where the old market of Madinah once stood.
