Sa'd ibn Ubadah, chief of the Khazraj, was known for his generosity. When his mother passed away he asked the Prophet ﷺ which charity was best on her behalf, and was told water, so he dug a well and gave its water for her sake, and the water jars of Sa'd served the people of Madinah long afterwards. Al-Samhudi placed his fortified house near Masjid al-Nabawi, beside the Saqifah of Banu Sa'idah where Abu Bakr al-Siddiq was chosen as caliph. Nothing of the house survives. Its site lies about 600 metres north-west of the Green Dome, next to the site of the Saqifah of Banu Sa'idah.
