Bab Misr, the Egyptian Gate, stood in the middle of the western side of the inner walls of Madinah. It was opened by Muhammad Ali Pasha after he repaired the walls, and Ibrahim Rifat Pasha thought it much like Bab Zuwayla in Cairo. Each year the mahmal procession passed through it on its way to Masjid al-Nabawi, and at the gate all who were riding dismounted out of respect for the Prophet ﷺ. The gate was taken down with the walls in the twentieth century. Its site lies about 400 metres west of Masjid al-Nabawi.
