Taxali Gate on the western side of the Walled City takes its name from the Mughal mint, the taksal, which stood nearby. The gate itself has not survived, but the name has stayed with the area and the bazaar inside it. The quarter lies close to the Badshahi Mosque and Fort Road Food Street. It is known for its traditional breakfasts of siri paye and halwa puri, and for its khussa shoe and slipper shops.
