Dar al-Saraya was built in 1886 as the Ottoman government house of Irbid, with offices and a prison around a central courtyard. It is now the city's archaeological museum, with finds from northern Jordan arranged by period. The building stands on Tell Irbid in the old centre of the city, close to the Irbid Grand Mosque and Arar's House.
