This mosque in al-Mazar al-Shamali, in the hills south of Irbid, stands on the site honoured as the maqam of Nabi Dawud. The village takes its name, al-Mazar, from the shrine, and the site is on the list of prophets' shrines kept by the Royal Committee. The present mosque was built around the old maqam, whose domed chamber now forms part of the prayer hall. The village lies on a ridge between Irbid and Ajloun.
