Ibrahim ibn Abdullah al-Mahd ibn al-Hasan al-Muthanna was a descendant of Imam al-Hasan ibn Ali (RA) and a prominent member of the Ahl al-Bayt during the early Abbasid period. He was the brother of Muhammad al-Nafs al-Zakiyyah and joined the uprising against the Abbasid Caliph al-Mansur in 145 AH / 762 CE. Ibrahim established his movement in Basra and gained considerable support before being defeated and killed in battle near Kufa. He is remembered as one of the leading Hasani figures who challenged Abbasid rule in the second Islamic century.
