This desert shrine is honoured as the grave of Sayyid Ahmad Sharaf al-Din, known as Ahmad ibn Hashim and as Abu Taras, a descendant of Imam Musa al-Kazim through Ibrahim al-Mujab. He is called "ibn Hashim", a name taken from his forefather Hashim. It stands in the open desert at the Nukhayb junction, about 25 km north-west of Ayn al-Tamr (Shithatha), on the road between Karbala and Anbar. Visitors from the region and further afield stop here to pray, and its quiet setting is part of its appeal.
