The Baghdadi Cultural Centre occupies one of the oldest buildings in Baghdad. By tradition it stands on the site of the Ribat Sa'ada, a lodge for scholars and Sufis founded in the 11th century, and under the Ottoman and Mamluk governors it housed the Defterkhana, the land and tax registry. After restoration it opened in 2011 as a cultural centre at the end of Mutanabbi Street, with a courtyard, halls for lectures and music, a small museum upstairs and a book and craft bazaar on Fridays. Entry is free.
