The mosque of al-Salih Tala'i was built in 1160 by the vizier Tala'i ibn Ruzzik, just outside Bab Zuwayla. It is the last mosque built in the Fatimid period and was meant to house the head of Sayyiduna al-Husayn, which was instead placed in the shrine beside the palace. The mosque was raised above a row of shops whose rents supported it, and it has a portico of keel arches along its front. Its carved wooden doors and stucco work are among the finest of the period, and it stands opposite Bab Zuwayla.
