Vidoški Grad is one of the largest fortresses in Herzegovina, set on the hill above Stolac. The site has been fortified since ancient times. The medieval fortress was taken over by the Ottomans and extended, and in the nineteenth century the Austro-Hungarians added a smaller fort inside its walls. Long stretches of wall and towers still stand, and information boards explain the different periods. Entry is free and the fortress is open at all times. From the top there are sweeping views over Stolac, the Bregava valley and the surrounding karst hills.
