Daorson was the fortified centre of the Daorsi, an Illyrian people, and flourished between the fourth and first centuries BC. It stands on a hill near the village of Ošanjići, above Stolac. Its most striking feature is a wall built of huge, carefully fitted stone blocks, often compared with the walls of ancient Mycenae, which once protected the acropolis. Finds from the site show close contact with the Greek world. A short uphill walk from the road brings you to the ruins and to wide views over the karst landscape.
