Makkah
Dhu Tuwa was a valley on the northern approach to Makkah. When Nabi Muhammad ﷺ came to Makkah for the Farewell Hajj, he spent the night at Dhu Tuwa, prayed Fajr and bathed here before entering the city in daylight. Abdullah ibn Umar made a point of doing the same, and many scholars regard it as a recommended practice for pilgrims arriving in Makkah. The old well of Dhu Tuwa survives in the Jarwal district, a little over a kilometre from Masjid al-Haram, now surrounded by the modern city. It is a simple walled well and a quiet reminder of how the Prophet ﷺ prepared himself before entering Makkah.
