Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid was the first wife of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and the first person to believe in his message. A respected and wealthy merchant of Makkah, she married him fifteen years before the first revelation, comforted and supported him when it came, and spent her wealth for the sake of Islam. She was the mother of all his children except Ibrahim. She passed away in Makkah in the tenth year of the prophethood, the same year as Abu Talib, which became known as the Year of Sorrow. She was buried in Jannat al-Mu'alla, and her grave, beside that of her son Sayyiduna al-Qasim, is among the most visited in the cemetery. A dome stood over it until the 1920s, and today it is marked by a simple enclosure.
