Shuwaymis, about 250 km south-west of Ha'il, is the second part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Rock Art in the Ha'il Region, inscribed in 2015 together with Jabal Umm Sinman at Jubbah. The carvings cover the sandstone cliffs of Jabal al-Manjor and Jabal Raat in Wadi al-Mukhayat, about 40 km west of the village of Shuwaymis. The rock art spans close to ten thousand years, from figures of people and animals carved when the region was far greener than it is today to camels and short inscriptions in later periods. The site is remote and reached on desert tracks, and visits are usually made with a local guide.
