Masjid al-Anbariyyah was built in 1908 on the orders of the Ottoman sultan Abdulhamid II as part of the Hejaz Railway project, and is also known as the Hamidiye Mosque. It takes its name from the old Anbariyyah Gate of Madinah and stands beside the railway station that was the terminus of the line. It is one of the few Ottoman buildings left in central Madinah, with two slender minarets, a cluster of domes and stone arches in the Turkish style. The mosque is still in use for daily prayers and sits next to the Hejaz Railway Station Museum.
