About Kaf Palace

Kaf Palace stands on a hill above the village of Kaf near al-Qurayyat, about 700 metres from the old Sa'idi castle. It was built over two years as the seat of Shaykh Nawaf al-Sha'lan, who governed the area, and was completed in 1338 AH (1920) according to the date inscribed on its door, which is why it is also known as Ibn Sha'lan Palace. In 1344 AH it passed to King Abdulaziz and served as the seat of the emirate of the area until 1357 AH, when the emirate moved to al-Qurayyat. The stone palace has two gates and a wall with a watchtower at each corner around its rooms and halls, and it has been documented and restored. Beside it lie the old mud village and palm groves of Kaf. Visitors report that the palace is often closed.
