The Rajajil Columns stand on open ground about 10 km south-east of Sakakah: groups of rough stone pillars, each about three metres tall, set upright in clusters aligned with sunrise and sunset. They date to around the fourth millennium BC, making them among the oldest monuments in northern Arabia, and their name, from the local word for men, comes from the way they look from a distance like groups of standing figures. Two wells found at the site are older still. Many of the pillars lean at different angles and some have fallen, and the site is fenced with staff on duty.
