The Faqir Khana Museum is a private museum kept by the Fakir family, whose ancestors served at the Lahore court in the early nineteenth century. Their collection, built up over generations, includes manuscripts, copies of the Qur'an, miniature paintings, textiles and objects from the Mughal and later periods. The museum is in the family's house inside Bhati Gate, deep in the lanes of the Walled City, which cars cannot reach. Entry is free, but visits are by appointment, so call ahead; a member of the family usually shows visitors round.
