Haveli Barood Khana is an eighteenth-century haveli in the Walled City, built during Sikh rule as the home of a commander of the Sikh army. Part of it served as an ammunition depot, the largest outside the Lahore Fort, which gave it the name Barood Khana, the gunpowder house. The haveli was bought by the family of Mian Karim Bakhsh in the 1840s and was later the home of Mian Amiruddin, the first Muslim mayor of Lahore. It remains a family home and is used for cultural evenings, music and film shoots, so visits are by arrangement.
