عن Mirjan Mosque

The Mirjan mosque was founded in 1356 by Amin al-Din Mirjan, governor of Baghdad under the Jalayirid sultan Shaykh Uways, as a madrasa teaching the four Sunni schools of law. Mirjan also built the nearby Khan Mirjan to provide its income, and he was buried in the madrasa. Part of the building, including the dome over Mirjan's grave, was taken down in the 1940s when Rashid Street was widened, and the mosque was rebuilt on its old plan and renovated in 1973. Its tall pointed entrance arch with carved bands survives on Rashid Street, opposite the Copper Market.
