The Khaffafin mosque is one of the old mosques of Rusafa, named after the shoemakers' market around it and also known as the Sayagh mosque after the goldsmiths' quarter. Local historians date it to the late Abbasid period, about eight centuries ago. It is a small mosque with three domes near the Tigris bank on Mustansir Street, between the Mustansiriya and the old customs house. A room in the mosque holds the grave of Sayyid Ismail ibn Ibrahim, a descendant of Imam Musa al-Kazim.
