Shaykh Talha ibn Madyan al-Tilimsani was born in 564 AH to a Maghribi family descended from the Prophet ﷺ and settled in the Delta. The town of Kafr al-Shaykh, the shaykh's village, takes its name from him. His mosque and shrine are among the oldest landmarks of the city and stand in its western quarter.
