Sayyid Ibrahim al-Dasuqi was born in Desouk in 633 AH to a family of Husayni descent. His father, Abd al-Aziz Abu al-Majd, was himself a saint whose shrine is at al-Rahmaniya across the Nile. Ibrahim became one of the four great saints of Egypt and the founder of the Burhaniyya way, and he passed away in Desouk at the end of the seventh century AH. His great mosque stands on the bank of the Rosetta branch of the Nile in the centre of Desouk, close to the railway station. His mawlid is held each year in the week after that of Sayyid Ahmad al-Badawi in Tanta and draws visitors from across Egypt and beyond.
