The Bišćević House is one of the oldest Ottoman houses in Mostar, dating from the seventeenth century. It stands on the eastern bank of the Neretva, built partly over the rocks of the riverbank. Visitors enter through a paved courtyard with a fountain into the upper floor, where the main reception room (divanhana) juts out over the river on wooden supports, with low cushioned benches, carpets and carved woodwork. It shows how a well-to-do Muslim family in Mostar lived, and the view from the divanhana is one of the best in town.
