Al-Hajjarah is a fortified village of the Haraz mountains, founded in the twelfth century as a defensive post. Its stone tower houses, five or six storeys high, stand together on a rocky ridge so that they form the village wall. The village has cisterns and grain stores built to withstand a siege, and it is a short distance from Manakha, with views across the mountains and terraces.
