The Great Mosque of Shibam Kawkaban is the first mosque built in the town of Shibam at the foot of Jabal Kawkaban, and is counted among the oldest mosques of the Yemeni highlands. Its plan follows the Great Mosque of Sana'a on a smaller scale. The mosque is known for its old carved and painted wooden ceilings and stone columns, and stands in the heart of the town, below the cliff-top village of Kawkaban.
