Sayyid Muhammad al-Fatih al-Kattani was the son of Muhammad al-Makki al-Kattani. He studied in Beirut and at al-Azhar, taught Islamic education in Latakia and then for more than thirty years in Damascus, and served as Maliki mufti in Syria. In retirement he continued to teach at his home and in the mosques of the city. He passed away in January 2021 and was buried in the Kattani family plot in the Bab al-Saghir cemetery, beside his father.
