This mosque near the Bab al-Saghir cemetery is named after Shaykh Muhammad Badr al-Din al-Hasani (1850 to 1935), known as the Muhaddith of Syria, who taught hadith in Damascus for more than half a century and whose students led the scholarly life of the city after him. The mosque stands beside his family's graves and the institute that bears his name, and it continues as a place of prayer and lessons.
