Abu al-Darda', Uwaymir ibn Zayd al-Ansari, was a Companion of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ from the Khazraj of Madinah, famous for his wisdom, worship and detachment from the world. Umar ibn al-Khattab sent him to Syria to teach the Qur'an, and he became the first judge of Damascus, teaching huge circles of students in the Umayyad Mosque. He passed away in Damascus around 32 AH. This shrine near the Citadel of Damascus is traditionally associated with him, while other traditions place his grave in the Bab al-Saghir cemetery, where his wife, Umm al-Darda', is also remembered.
