This historic school of hadith stands in the old city of Damascus among the cluster of medieval madrasas south-west of the Umayyad Mosque, near Dar al-Hadith al-Ashrafiyyah and Dar al-Hadith al-Nuriyyah. It is associated with the Ayyubid ruler al-Malik al-Adil, the brother of Salah al-Din, whose dynasty founded many schools of learning in the city. The building reflects the period when Damascus was one of the great centres of hadith study, drawing students from across the Muslim world.
