Rushayd al-Hajari, often called Rashid al-Hijri, was one of the close companions of Sayyiduna Ali in Kufa. Tradition relates that Ali told him in advance how he would be killed. After Ali's death the Umayyad governor of Kufa ordered him to disown Ali, and when he refused, his hands, feet and tongue were cut off and he was killed. The shrine honoured as his grave stands near al-Kifl, a short drive from the shrine of Zayd ibn Ali.
