Located in the al-Shifāʾ quarter of Old Mosul, near Bash Tapia Castle and opposite the former shrine of Imam Yahya Abu al-Qasim, this historic site originally formed part of al-Madrasah al-Nuriyyah, an important religious school established during the Atabeg period in the late sixth or early seventh century AH. A chamber within the complex later became known as the Mashhad of Imam Muhsin, traditionally associated with Muhsin ibn Sayyiduna ʿAli ibn Abi Talib and Sayyidah Fatimah al-Zahra (RA). The complex later developed into a functioning mosque and has been restored in recent years; medieval marblework and a historic mihrab were rediscovered during the reconstruction.
