The Kilaniyya Zawiya is the Qadiri zawiya of the Kilani family of Hama, descendants of Sayyid Abd al-Qadir al-Kilani (al-Jilani) who settled in the city and for centuries led the Qadiri path in Syria. The quarter around it, on the eastern bank of the Orontes, is named al-Kilaniyya after the family. The zawiya and its mosque stand on the river opposite the Nuri Mosque, beside the Kilaniyya water wheel, one of the historic norias for which Hama is famous. It is a short walk along the river from al-Azem Palace.
