About Maqam of Hassan ibn Thabit

Hassan ibn Thabit of the Khazraj was the poet of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, who answered the poets of Quraysh and praised the Prophet ﷺ and the Muslims in his verse. He lived to a great age and passed away in Madinah around 54 AH. This small shrine north of the old city of Hama, near the Orontes, carries his name, and an old mosque beside it was once known as the Mosque of Shaykh Hassan. Local scholars point out that Hassan is not known to have left Madinah, so the shrine is best seen as a traditional place of remembrance.
