Shaykh Muhammad al-Nabhan (1900–1974) was one of the best-known Sufi scholars and teachers of Aleppo in the twentieth century. He revived the old Kiltawiyyah mosque near Bab al-Hadid and made it a centre of learning, the school of Dar Nahdat al-Ulum al-Shar'iyyah, where many students studied the religious sciences and the spiritual path. He is buried in the Kiltawiyyah, and his grave is visited by his students and by visitors to the old city. The mosque and school remain active today.
