Sayyidah Fāṭimah al-Ṣughrā was a daughter of Imam al-Husayn ibn ʿAli and Sayyidah Umm Isḥāq bint Ṭalḥah, and therefore a great-granddaughter of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ through his daughter Sayyidah Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ and her son Imam al-Husayn (RA). She married her cousin, Imam al-Hasan al-Muthannā, the son of Imam al-Hasan (RA), and became the mother of a distinguished branch of the Ahl al-Bayt. She is remembered for her knowledge, devotion, patience and noble character. A domed shrine within the historic Bāb al-Ṣaghīr Graveyard in Damascus is traditionally attributed to her, situated near the shrines associated with Sayyidah Sakīnah and Sayyidah Umm Kulthum. However, historical accounts more commonly place her later life, death and burial in Madinah. The inscription connected with the Damascus grave may also indicate that the person buried there was a later descendant of Imam al-Husayn rather than his daughter herself.
