Sayyidah Maymūnah is traditionally identified as a daughter of Imam al-Hasan ibn ʿAli (RA) and a great-granddaughter of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ through Sayyidah Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ (RA). Very little reliable biographical information about her life has been preserved. A grave within Bāb al-Ṣaghīr Graveyard in Damascus is traditionally attributed to her and is situated beside the graves attributed to Sayyidah Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays and Sayyidah Humaydah bint Muslim ibn ʿAqil.
