Shaykh Abdullah Sirajuddin (1342–1422 AH / 1924–2002) was one of the leading hadith scholars and teachers of modern Aleppo. The son of the scholar Muhammad Najib Sirajuddin, he studied with his father and with the historian and hadith scholar Muhammad Raghib al-Tabbakh, and taught for decades at the Great Mosque, the Khusrawiyya and other mosques of the city. He wrote more than twenty books, among them a work on the life of the Prophet ﷺ and a commentary on the Bayquniyya, the classic poem on hadith terminology. He was buried in the cemetery inside the Sha'baniyya Madrassa, where he had taught, in the old city a short walk north-west of the Citadel. Thousands of people came to bid him farewell at his funeral. Nearby are the Al-Mahmandar Mosque, Khan al-Wazir and the Grand Umayyad Mosque with the Grave of Nabi Zakariyya.
