Bab al-Hadid, the Iron Gate, is the north-eastern gate of old Aleppo. It was rebuilt in 1509 under the Mamluk sultan Qansuh al-Ghawri and takes its name from its iron-clad doors. The gate stands in a quarter of craftsmen's shops near the Kiltawiyya and the Banqusa and Haddadin mosques. It is one of the best-preserved gates of the old city.
