About Valley of al-Aqiq

Wadi al-Aqiq is the broad valley that runs along the western side of Madinah, carrying the floodwaters from the mountains to the south. Nabi Muhammad ﷺ regarded it as a blessed valley, prayed in it and granted land in it to some of his Companions, and he passed through it on his way to Dhul Hulayfah for Hajj. In Umayyad times the valley became a favourite place for the people of Madinah to build homes and gardens, and the ruins of the palace of Urwa ibn al-Zubayr still stand on its banks. Much of the valley is now part of the modern city, with parks and walkways along it, and after heavy rain it still runs with water.
