Samallaghi Dam is an old stone dam in Wadi Thumalah, about 30 km south-west of Taif. It is around 212 metres long and 25 metres high, built as a double wall with a stepped front face, and could hold an estimated half a million cubic metres of water. It is thought to date from the early Islamic period, and inscriptions in Kufic script stand beside it. The dam sits between two mountains, with sidr and acacia trees in front and orchards behind, and the remains of an old village and two watchtowers nearby. Part of the wall has been breached by erosion, and the site is open land reached by a rough road.
