About Masjid Addas (Garden of Taif)

In the tenth year of the prophethood, after the passing of Sayyidah Khadijah and Abu Talib, Nabi Muhammad ﷺ went to Taif to invite the tribe of Thaqif to Islam. Their leaders rejected him harshly and set the youths of the town on him, and he left bleeding and exhausted. He took shelter in a vineyard belonging to Utbah and Shaybah ibn Rabi'ah, and there he turned to Allah in a moving supplication. The owners sent their Christian servant Addas, a man from Nineveh in Iraq, with a plate of grapes. When the Prophet ﷺ began eating with Bismillah and spoke of Nabi Yunus, Addas recognised him as a prophet, kissed his hands and accepted Islam. A small mosque marks the garden today in the al-Mathnah area of Taif.
