Jabal Daka is one of the highest peaks of the al-Shafa mountains, about 20 km south-west of Taif, rising to around 2,500 metres. Juniper trees cover its lower slopes, and winter nights at the summit fall below freezing. The peak is a popular viewpoint at sunset, with wide views over the Sarawat mountains, and baboons are common along the road. The drive up is steep, and the area is busiest in the summer months when people come to escape the heat.
