An official printing press was set up in Makkah in 1300 AH (1883), and it printed the official calendar of the Hijaz as well as books studied in Masjid al-Haram. Its building stood in the Ajyad quarter beside the Hamidiyyah government house, facing the southern side of the mosque, and it was photographed a few years after it was built. The building no longer stands. Its site lies about 115 metres south of the Ka'bah, within the enlarged mosque.
