The old mosque of al-Masqi stands in the village of al-Masqi, about 32 km south-east of Abha. Local accounts date its first building to 73 to 75 AH, recorded on a plaque that hung in the mosque, and the tenth-century geographer al-Hamdani mentioned it as the main mosque of a large village. The present building dates from its reconstruction in 1397 AH. It long served as a congregational and Friday mosque for the surrounding villages. It was restored in the second phase of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, and it holds about 156 worshippers.
