About Miqat of Dhat Irq

Dhat Irq is the miqat for pilgrims coming to Makkah from Iraq and the east. Many scholars hold that it was set in the time of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, while others record that it was fixed by Umar ibn al-Khattab after the conquest of Iraq. For centuries pilgrims travelling from Kufa and Baghdad along the Darb Zubaydah entered ihram here. The old site, about eighty-five kilometres north-east of Makkah, is now rarely used, as most pilgrims from the east enter ihram at Qarn al-Manazil or on their flights. A mosque marks the place, and it is mostly visited by those interested in the historic pilgrim routes.
