Masjid al-Najdi in the centre of Farasan Island was built in 1347 AH by Shaykh Ibrahim al-Tamimi, known as al-Najdi, a pearl merchant from Hawtat Bani Tamim who often travelled to India. It took thirteen years to build, and its paintings and decoration were brought from India. Built of stone, it is known for its carved and painted minbar and mihrab with plant ornament and its roof of twelve decorated domes on arches. It was restored in the second phase of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques.
